How Technology Can Boost Your Energy and Productivity global-technology

Unplug. Unplug. Technology gets a bad rap. It gets blamed for burnout, disconnectedness and the fall of work-life balance. All of that is true. Despite the fact that I resisted having a smart phone for years, I have come to love and recommend using technology to improve our wellbeing. Yes, I encourage clients to unplug as much as possible to manage their energy. However, I have found technology, especially the smartphone, can help us navigate our crazy busy world and get more energy to do what we want. No Tech Required While I have my favorite apps, which I discuss below, using electronics to boost our energy doesn’t have to be complicated. One of my favorite smartphone functions (not limited to smartphones) is the good old-fashioned clock.

Technology Skills Gap: Fact or Fiction? Part II

The LMD technology also will allow for the creation of real-time electronic « push-pin » maps showing places where aflatoxins have been detected. Cooper’s plan is to eventually put smartphones or electronic tablets into the hands of people working in strategic farm communities. « If we can become operational on 100 different farms, for example, and conduct several tests a week, then we will be able to start aggregating data and looking at trends over time, » he said. « We might be able to detect particular times when aflatoxin in grains starts to appear on the market during informal grain exchanges, allowing us to pinpoint the origin of the infected grain. » In addition to learning about agriculture in Kenya, Cooper and other participating scientists will tour regional laboratories and facilities. They also will visit local farms and explore possible collaborations with other workshop participants that could contribute to the advancement of agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa. Such detection could open the door for more effective mitigation strategies to halt the outbreaks, including treating only parts of specific crop fields rather than spraying entire fields with pesticides. « We are looking for strategic partners, in this case community leaders, who can help us implement this technology, » said Cooper. Rapid test strips are typically made of cellulose nitrate with antibody-impregnated pads designed to react with specific antigens to produce a specific visual signal. There are now LMD-compatible strips used to identify more than 1,000 different pathogens and pollutants. Cooper said Mobile Assay Inc.

I spoke with Holly Mosack, the head of ATS Veteran Hiring and 6 Sigma Deployment Champion at ATS, to learn more about the company. Mosack told me that ATS is a $300million company that spun out of Caterpillar Inc. in the 1980s. Advanced Technology Services employees help prevent machine breakdowns and there are around 3,000 employees spread across the U.S., U.K. andMexico, said Mosack in the interview. When I asked her what some of the challenges that the company faces, she said that we need people that are highly skilled and technical. Our employees need to know how torepairhydraulics, mechanical systems, electrical systemsand heavy machinery. These types of jobs are not promoted as a career choice in most colleges today. This is why military veterans are a great fit for Advanced Technology Systems. As a former Army Captain that left Iraq in 2005, Mosack told me that she was nervous when leavingthe Army. Fortunately, ATS hired her despite the lack of civilian and corporate experience. Mosack told me that veterans are very technical and have a lot of discipline. Around half of the managers at ATS are veterans. Mosack made it clear to me that ATS is not a staffing company and does not exclusively staff veterans. Some of ATS largest customers include Caterpillar, Motorola, Eaton,BorgWarner,Textron and Panasonic. The equipment that ATS employees works on how to become an alpha male john alexander such as robotics, PLC machines and CNC machines, are very technical and highly automated. A lot of the machines dates back to the early 1940s. When I asked Mosack what employees at ATS do to learn machine repair from each other, she told me about a system called ATSefactoryConnect. ATSefactory Connectis adiagnostic service that links a maintenance tech to technical experts to solve complex problems quickly: ATS also partnered with community colleges for employees to learn how to fix equipment Pros/Cons Of Being In The Midwest When I asked Mosack what she believes the pros are cons of being in the Midwest are, she said that the cons are that recruiting people in Peoria can be challenging since many people have not heard of the city. She also added that Illinois taxes are not very friendly for businesses and some laws should be changed. Mosack did say that there are a lot of pros. One of the biggest pros are the people here, she said. Midwesterns are hardworking and are very dedicated to their jobs. Manufacturing is the backbone of our country so innovation is key in this sector. ATS is a great example of a success story that is helping drive business development and innovation in the manufacturing sector.

Saving our soldiers: New technology matches heroes suffering from psychiatric disorders with proper treatment

And 2012 saw more casualties among American troops as a result of suicide than in combat, with 349 soldiers taking their own lives. None of these kids in basic training were ever told thatthe person most likely to kill you, is yourself, Carpenter said. There’s no test in this area, unlike every other part of medicine. There’s blood tests, X-rays, bone scans, (but) for psychiatry, diseases of the brain, there really isn’t any test that says which medication you’ll respond to. Research shows that 60 percent of the time, medications prescribed to for conditions like depression, PTSD and anxiety dont work for the patients taking them. Psychiatrists at CNS Response realized that medication failure in patients with mental disorders was, in large part, due to the fact that there were no standardized medical tests available for doctors to help prescribe the right medications for their patients. To address this need, CNS Response created the psychiatric electroencephalography evaluation report, or PEER, by collecting data over a 20 year period. Using electroencephalograms (EEGs) to measure brain activity in depressed patients, researchers were able to identify biomarkers in patients brains and collect outcomes for the medications used to treat each patient. They found that patients with similar brain abnormalities shown in the scans responded better to certain medications. We now have 35,000 of these correlations and what it does is it says, like when you buy a book on Amazon.com, it’ll say The people who bought this book, like you, also bought this one and this one, said Carpenter.
